Dear Brethren, Companions and Friends,
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of our esteemed Brother, Wayne Smith, who left us yesterday, Saturday, June 17th, 2023.
Wayne was more than just a Grand Secretary and Grand Scribe Ezra to us. He was a true friend, a mentor, a guide, and an inspiration. He was a giant of a man, not just in stature, but in unwavering dedication, his spirit of service, and his unparalleled wisdom have left indelible marks on our lives and our institution.
Over the past few months, Wayne had been battling illness courageously. Despite several surgical procedures and the unimaginable pain he bore, he remained a beacon of strength and resilience. His perseverance and dignity during these challenging times were truly remarkable and have left us with life-long lessons of courage and hope.
Our deepest condolences go to Wayne’s Partner and the Smith Family.
In these sorrowful times, we share in your grief and extend our support and love.
Wayne’s memories and the legacy he has left behind will forever be etched in our hearts.
As we remember Wayne, we also find solace in cherishing the light-hearted moments that brought smiles to our faces. It is almost as if we can see him in the Grand Lodge above, busily ensuring everything runs smoothly, just as he did among us.
His commitment to order and precision are qualities we will forever remember and appreciate.
In due course, we will share the funeral details. In this difficult time, let us all come together, pay our last respects, and celebrate the extraordinary life Wayne lived.
Rest in Peace, Wayne. You live respected and died regretted, but your indomitable spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all those you’ve touched and continue to guide us on our journey ahead.

Wayne’s Masonic Career
The United Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Victoria
Wayne became a freemason at the age of 21 on the 1st of March 1979 at Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge No. 584.
He was passed to the second degree on the 3rd of May 1979 and then raised to the sublime degree of a master mason on the 1st of November 1979.
Wayne became the Master of the Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge No. 584 on the 4th of July 1984 – 5th July 1985.
On the 25th of March 2023 Wayne was conferred the rank of Past Deputy Grand Master.
